In most cases, your initial visit to the office will be for a comprehensive examination and consultation with either Dr. Nellen or Dr. Goeckerman. In addition to an oral exam, they will also review the necessary diagnostic x-rays, which may include 3D imaging for more detailed images of your teeth and supporting bone. Your surgeon will thoroughly evaluate your situation and determine the treatment plan that will best meet your needs.
Following the examination, your surgeon will discuss the ideal treatment option and any alternatives, explain the procedures involved, and outline the treatment sequence. He will also discuss the options you have for anesthesia and help you determine the best option for your comfort during surgery. One of our experienced surgical assistants will review surgical instructions with you, so that you know what to expect the day of surgery and during the recovery period.
If your dentist has referred you for a consultation about dental implants, our Implant Coordinator will also be involved in the consultation. She will assist you with scheduling appointments and coordinating the phases of your treatment with your dentist.
Please provide the following information at the time of your initial consultation:
- The surgical referral form from your dentist and any recent x-rays.
- A list of medications you are currently taking.
- If you have dental insurance, please bring your insurance card. This will save time and allow us to help you process your claims.
PATIENTS UNDER 18: A parent or guardian must accompany patients under 18 years of age during the initial examination and consultation.
